Justice Reform Initiative

The Justice Reform Initiative is an alliance of people from across the political spectrum who share long-standing professional experience or knowledge of the justice system and believe there is an urgent need to reduce the number of people in Australian jails. We have banded together to present the strong evidence-based case for reform to governments, recognising that this crucial reform has been far too slow in Australia – with a very real toll on people and communities.

Robert Tickner currently serves as the Chair of the Justice Reform Initiative Board.

EveryAGE counts

EveryAGE Counts is an advocacy campaign aimed at tackling ageism involving stereotyping, discriminantion and mistreatment of older Australians. It will affect all of us at some point in our lives unless we successfully change things for the better.

It has the potential to impact on the confidence, quality of life, job prospects, health, and control over life decisions of all people as they age. As well as its individual impacts, ageism can also deny society the enormous range of benefits that can flow, economically and socially, from the full participation of all people as they age. A very stark example of this is the reported high levels of age discrimination in the workplace which reveal that close to 50% of employera have policies not to recruit people over the age of 50 years.

Robert Tickner is Chair of the EveryAGE Counts Board and deeply committed to the principles of intergenerational solidarity.

Watch the Human Rights Webinar ‘The missing link: Australian leadership and support for a UN Convention on the Rights of Older Persons.'

EveryAGE Counts Co-chair Marlene Krasovitski facilitated a lively and engaging discussion with keynote speakers and panellists on how we can galvanise and mobilise Australian Government leadership domestically and on the global stage in the creation of a UN Convention on the Rights of Older Persons.

International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons

The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) is a coalition of non-governmental organizations in more than one hundred countries promoting adherence to and implementation of the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. This landmark global agreement was adopted in New York on 7 July 2017.

Since its foundation ICAN has worked to build a powerful global groundswell of public support for the abolition of nuclear weapons. By engaging a diverse range of groups and working alongside the Red Cross and like-minded governments, ICAN has helped reshape the debate on nuclear weapons and generate momentum towards elimination.
